Britain: Revolutionary Optimism On Display at 2015 Socialist Appeal Supporters’ Conference

As the general election approaches, there is little enthusiasm among ordinary people for any of the main parties and the program of austerity that they share. Meanwhile, the mood among the ruling class worldwide is one of deep pessimism, as the global economy splutters and stagnates and the establishment lurches from one scandal to another.

In contrast, the mood among the Marxists is one of revolutionary optimism—optimism about the radicalization taking place in society and the mass movement breaking out across the world, as workers and youth look for an alternative to the permanent crisis of capitalism.

This means we need a national office for all of our volunteers and future paid staff and a place to house Socialist Appeal and MarxistBooks.com. We also need more travel to the various branches and comrades, especially as we have seen an increase in correspondence from around this enormous country.

IMG 0323On Saturday, March 14, the 34th Annual Congress of The Struggle, the Pakistan section of the International Marxist Tendency, commenced its proceedings in Lahore. This was yet another milestone in the growth and development of the forces of Marxism in Pakistan. The congress opened with a tremendous display of enthusiasm as comrades from all over Pakistan crowded into the large hall of the Aiwan-e-Iqbal building in the center of Lahore.

Historic Turnout for the 2015 Marxist Winter School!

Over 80 people registered to participate in the annual Marxist Winter School on the weekend of February 15–16 in icy Montreal. This year’s school, held at Concordia University, broke the record for the highest attendance in the event’s history, and saw revolutionary activists visiting from Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Boston, New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and California. Organizers from Fightback (Canada), La Riposte (Quebec), and the Workers’ International League (USA) were elated to have held yet another successful event, proven by the sense of enthusiasm which permeated the room. In the continuing tradition of revolutionary unity between workers and youth from both English and French Canada, discussion was held in both French and English and facilitated through consecutive translation.
